RLJ Coaching: Tips about Coaching

Change takes time. It's not an overnight transformation.  Shifting our “being” requires first a shift in our “thinking”.  Our thought patterns take time to reprogram.  The things we do sometimes take time to gel and sink in.  So, we will coach in chunks of six months with a short break.  For as many chunks as you need to get where you want to go, to be the leader you want, and to live wholeheartedly.

Our work will generally include:

  • Initial conversations and discovery of coaching focus
  • Joint development of coaching outcomes.
  • Virtually unlimited additional support by quick phone calls and email as requested by you.
  • Mid- and end of program assessments against identified outcomes.
  • A plan for your on-going growth and development after the conclusion of coaching.

The difference between Coaching, Counseling, Mentoring, and Consulting

While there is some overlap between these practices, there are also a few key differences:

Coaching looks forward and focuses on improved effectiveness and personal/professional development.  Coaching is about discovery and awareness and conscious choice toward moving forward and being the leader you desire.  It writes your future story and brings it to life.

Counseling looks to the past and focuses on understanding emotional and psychological roots of behavior.  It retells the story of your past.

Mentoring is “experience driven” focusing on gaining the knowledge and networks from one who has gone before.  It is the editor “marking up” the future story.

Consulting is “expert-driven” focusing on the expert to provide and implement the solutions to business problems.  It is a ghost writer that creates the story.
